About Park Place Law

Brenda Kaine

Brenda was born and raised in Quebec and obtained her undergraduate degree at Carleton University in Ottawa.  She then attended Queen’s Law School in Kingston, Ontario where she earned her law degree in 1980.   She came west to article (apprentice) and was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1981.

Brenda practiced in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia for 23 years, almost exclusively in the area of family law.   During this time she regularly appeared in both Provincial and Supreme Court and in addition handled several complex cases in the British Columbia Court of Appeal.   In 1992 Brenda joined McQuarrie Hunter, a firm of 25 lawyers with offices in New Westminster and Surrey.

Seeking out the island life, she left the city in 2004 to practice in Nanaimo.   She has continued her litigation work, but has expanded her mediation practice.   She qualified as a family law mediator in 1998, having completed the Law Society qualifications at that time.

Brenda’s extensive courtroom experience stands her in good stead to help people resolve their family law problems.

Brenda is a member of the Canadian Bar Association (B.C. Branch) and has contributed to that organization over the years, mainly by conducting seminars.   She was a founding member of the Westminster County Family Law Section.

Brenda has also been actively involved with the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.   She has served a member of the Board of Directors between 2001 and 2003.   She was appointed web-site advisor to the CLE Society on December 31, 2003.

Through Continuing Legal Education she served as a practice area advisor and has made contributions to various family law courses given to lawyers.

Since relocating to Nanaimo, she has joined the Nanaimo Family Law and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections of the Canadian Bar Association.

Park Place Law has a dedicated team of assistants, (Vi White, Debra Beaumont and Karen McKenzie), who together have close to 60 years of legal experience.
