I was born and raised in Quebec and obtained my undergraduate degree at Carleton University in Ottawa. I then attended Queen's Law School in Kingston, where I earned my law degree in 1980. I came west to article (apprentice) and was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 1981.
I practiced in the Lower Mainland region of the Province for 23 years, almost exclusively in the area of family law. During this time I regularly appeared in both Provincial and Supreme Court and in addition I handled several complex cases in the B.C. Court of Appeal. In 1992, I joined McQuarrie Hunter, a firm of 25 lawyers with offices in New Westminster and Surrey.
Seeking out the island life, I left the city in 2004 to practice in Nanaimo. I have continued my litigation work, but I have expanded my mediation practice. I qualified as a family law mediator in 1998, having completed the Law Society qualifications at that time.
My extensive courtroom experience stands me in good stead to help people resolve their family law problems.
I am a member of the Canadian Bar Association (B.C. Branch) and have contributed to that organization over the years, mainly by conducting seminars. I was a founding member of the Westminster County Family Law Section.
I have also been actively involved with the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia. I served as a member of the Board of Directors between 2001 and 2003. I was appointed web-site advisor to the CLE Society on December 31, 2003.
Through the CLE I served as a practice area advisor and have made contributions to various family law courses given to lawyers.
Since relocating to Nanaimo, I have joined the Nanaimo Family Law and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections of the Canadian Bar Association.
I have a dedicated team of assistants in Vi White and Debra Beaumont, who together have 35 years of legal experience.
